Nazi Art As Propaganda Essays - Adolf Hitler, Fascism, Nazism

Nazi Art As Propaganda Nazi Germany regulated and controlled the art produced between 1933 and 1945 to ensure they embodied the values they wished to indoctrinate into the German people. The notion of ?volk' (people) and ?blut und boden' (soil and blood) was championed in paintings to glorify an idealized rural Germany and instill a sense of ?superiority' in the Nordic physicality. Highly veristic and asthetisized works romanticized everyday subjects and reiterated redundant stereotyped Nazi ideals of the human body and its purposes in the Reich. Paintings of Adolf Hitler valorized and his image to heroic status, even to the extent of deification, elevating him to a god-like status. By promoting Hitler as superior to the average person, the artist made Hitler a mythological being who, if followed with unconditional religious piety, would lead the Germanic race to an ideal future. The architecture, or so-called ?ideology in stone', was also a vessel for political ideology. The monumental buildings served to construct a pseudo-history to authenticate the stable, strong and righteous nature of the ?thousand year Reich'. Thus, art in the Third Reich was merely a form of propaganda that insidiously promoted the superiority of the Nordic race, the need for loyalty and obedience and the invulnerability of the German nation. Images of the Nordic peasant endorsed a return to a pre-industrial idyllic rural Germany. The oil painting ?Kalenberg Farm Family', by Adolf Wissel, depicts an intimate domestic situation of a family relaxing, presumably after a day of ?working the land', in a tranquil natural setting. It is an easily accessible work, that the Dadaist Duchamp would label ?retinal art', as it is an aesthetically motivated and stylistically anti-modernist piece. The rich warm colours are inviting, serving to emphasize the serenity and timelessness of the scene. The composition is extremely ordered, controlled, and dignified, there is no indication of social unrest under the rule of the Third Reich, it is an ideal Utopia where the every day person a subject worthy of intense interest. This is a blatant celebration of the virtues of a simple rural life (that in reality did not exist) as it presents the family in such positive and reverent way, a stereotyped ?perfect' standard for German families to aspir e to. This was an extremely popular subject as indicated by the multitudes of paintings that were similar in genre, for example ?Rest During the Harvest' by George Gunter, and ?Farm Girls returning from the Fields' by Leopold Schmutzter. Hitler said that art should be the ?expressions of the soul and ideals of the community' and these painting certainly do present the ideals of life that the National Socialists chose to privilege. These values in turn, like a circulatory motion encouraged the feelings and values of the German people who saw it, by instilling a sense of national pride in a wholesome and righteous life dictated by the Nazi values. Nazi ideology is also illustrated by ?Ploughing', by Julius Paul Junghan; this is more specifically linked to the notion of ?blood and soil'. A person who works with the land achieves a spiritual unity with it, so that they become a part of the natural world and integral to both the continuances of its fertility and yours. The painting displays this ancient German ideology that was appropriated and extended by the Nazis to rationalize the policy of Lebensraum or ?living space' so that the superior Nordic race could control over and order the land of other inferior nations. The oil landscape painting depicts a man reigning three sturdy workhorses with an archaic plow. The eyes are drawn from the three horses to the ?intellectual' force behind the action with sweeping converging lines, thus ploughing the land is a collective action, shared between farmer and animal, working towards a better field, or in symbolic terms a better Germany. Again a highly romanticized image of life entwined with nature is presented to manipulate the viewer, it forces them to connect hard work to achieve a collective goal (plowing the soil ready for planting) with moral righteousness. This theme is reiterated repeatedly almost to exhaustion in such works as ?Ploughing in the Evening' by Willy Jackel, and ?The Sower' by Oskar Martin-Ambach. The Nazi ideals are

Obediance to authority essays

Obediance to authority essays Obedience to authority is necessary for any society to function. The point, at which obedience to authority becomes dangerous, is when it harms other citizens. One should obey authority, when it is empowered by the society, through rules enacted by society. Following this policy, society can prevent chaos. Obedience to prevent chaos is part of our everyday routine. For example, obedience when driving is necessary. When officers give orders in traffic situations, obedience is critical for traffic to flow, thus citizens to get around towns, to work and pay taxes. If people overran 1 or 2 officers, there is no way to stop herds of people making a run for it. An example, showing the need for obedience is rioting. How could you go to work and pay taxes in this state of Chaos? Since people do not generally riot, societal order is maintained. If society rioted and our armed guard could not stop the chaos, society would cease to function. Obedience is also enforced due to overwhelming majorities. Luckily, the greater percentage of people in a society would condone stealing, murdering, etc. For example, what if people were to act on whims, such as lack of money or passion? They would suffer consequences, because the majority of society backs up the laws they enacted, with the support of their police forces. Thus, individuals use better judgment and those who do not, suffer the consequences. Zombardos prison experiments demonstrate this, the prisoners follow the guards, because they have control and the backing of more forces or so they think. Any successful society follows these orders of obedience. A citizen must feel safe when venturing to work, paying taxes, or feeling safe to going out and spend his or her income on goods and services, thus running a successful economy. Obedience to authority can have devastating effects when used improperly with humans. When a human of power abuses his or her power ...

Dell Strategic Audit Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Dell Strategic Audit - Essay Example After twenty years in the industry, Dell Computer Corporation changed their name to Dell Inc. in 2003. To reach as many global markets as possible, Dell under the management of Michael ensured that they had manufacturing plants and customer service stations in Asia, North America and Europe. Michael endorsed a new chief executive officer, Kevin Rollins in 2004. Kevin made sure that Dell Inc. continued with the same focus linked with driving costs out of supply chain and reaching more foreign markets. Between 2005 and 2007, Dell started to face loses in the market share because the competitors had found ways to imitate its innovations. In addition, the company faced negative new coverage with so much investigation by the Exchange and Securities Commission for irregularities linked to accounting. Rollins could not stand the poor financial performances and decided to resign in 2007 and Michael was up for the task once more. It is evident that this poor performance by Dell was as a result of irregularities in the financial statements from 2003 to 2006. By the time Rollins resigned, Dell had relinquished the position of market share leadership and dropped to become a resurgent competitor. In order to recover, Michael decided to branch out into providing personal computers by retailing. At that time, Dell was operating on a cost reduction plan of three billion dollars annually. Michael announced on September that the company was going to sell most of its manufacturing facilities within one and a half years. This strategy was initiated to try and get back Dell on track and see the stock price growing again. Dell inc. lost its competitive advantage to Hewlett-Packard that became the top supplier of personal computers. Dell Inc. modified its manufacturing model to boost the retail efforts. In addition, the company’s focus became manufacturing high volume products. By 2008, Dell Inc. had sold out more than 12, 000 of its facilities. The focus was

India Census Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

India Census - Assignment Example Sahni (2011) stated that government is said to have been campaigning against abortion and sex selection but is still ineffective because of the diminishing number of girls. Some of the reasons of India’s skewed sex ratio include female feticide, pre-sex selection methods such as ultrasound machines, attitudes towards female children and traditional practices of the country (Sahni 2011). According to Ravi Verma, a director of the Asia office of International Center for Research in Women, Indian society is the major reason of the sex preference of the citizens. Even the improvement on wealth, education and technology are to be blamed why this problem in India is still not resolved. Verma even emphasized that the attitude of the society towards sons and daughters is the key to help improve this phenomenon. It is very unhappy to know that this kind of problem on sex discrimination is very widespread in India. This discrimination came to a point of pre-sex selection and female feticide. The government must therefore take more serious actions to help the diminishing number of female children in the country. The government has the power to do this. Thus female Indians’ future depends on the hands of the government and the society itself. Sahni, D. (2011). India Census Reflects a Grim Reality for Girls. India RealTime: The Wall Street Journal. Twenty-first Centry Images of Nurses and Nursing Essay

Twenty-first Centry Images of Nurses and Nursing - Essay Example Effective leaders in the nursing professional also ensure that the nursing education and practices are quality and safe. Effective nursing leadership advocates for an innovative, collaborative, and evidence-based working environment, which assists the nurses in the profession to have value and respect in their position. The nursing profession has evolved over the years, from the initial description of altering the environment to ensure that the patient is in the best condition possible for nature to act upon them. This was the initial description of nursing by Florence Nightingale in the mid 1800s. However, the world has had broad and milestone advances in technology and scientific facts over the past decades, thus the roles of nurses have evolved to those of promoting health, assisting patients to cope with their illnesses, and preventing diseases. The roles of a nurse including meeting some of the needs of a patient that cannot be met by any other member of the society (Summers and Jacobs, 2009). Currently, the nursing career is a helping profession, providing assistance services to the well being and health care of patients. Nonetheless, the nursing profession is expected to evolve even more as we venture into the second decade of the twenty-first century. The nursing stereotypes has also changed with the development of the nursing profession, evolving from a domestic art, a religious calling, a skilled discipline, a pool of expert managers, a pool of expert clinicians to today. The media representation of the nursing professional influences the societal view of nurses and nursing in general, portraying them as toxic to innocuous. Among the representations include the ministering angels taking care of wounded soldiers, the dumb nurses happy to be on the receiving end of patients’ coughs, the saucy nurses wearing their usual abbreviated skirts, pneumatic breasts and frilly hats, and the battleaxe, the queen of patient torture in ward routines. However, experienced and qualified nurses have come forth to present the real images of nursing and the profession, arguing that the media portrays the professionals as background fillers rather than highly skilled, university educated, and autonomous health care specialists responsible for the life and death of patients. These nurses oppose the commonly held notion that technology can replace nursing, presenting facts that back their stand. According to them, a device hooked up to a patient cannot detect some of the subtle changes that may be life threatening to the patient like demeanor, color, state of mind, or their speech (Summers and Jacobs, 2009). The image of nurses and nursing is improving over time, with more regards and appreciation over the importance of the profession. The education and practicing standards of nurses have improved immensely in the twenty-first century, with the curriculum incorporating high-level skills and techniques on health care. In today’s society, nursing is considered as an autonomous and professional, complete with its own theories and methodology. 2. Describe three historical views that influence or have influenced the definition of contemporary nursing as a science, an art, and a practice? Many nurse researchers consider the contemporary nursing profession as a basic science. This is a result of the various nursing theories put forth. Contemporary nursing principles organize the nursing theories in a hierarchical order,

Properties of Gases Essay

Introduction Background This report covers Properties of Gases and will allow me the opportunity to explore chemical and physical properties of gases. Collection and use of these gases will also be conducted in this lab. Statement of Problem Collecting gases is a difficult process. Singling out a gas and obtaining only that gas is the challenge we face in this experiment. Purpose of Experiment The purpose of this experiment is use water, chemicals and metals along with collection tubes to extract a single gas and to store it. Then to use only that gas and see how it responds to other testing. Hypothesis If the gases are correctly singled out and collected properly. We should be able to observe changes when the gases are introduced to heat or fire. Experiment Test tubes will be used to single out gases from two forms of metals along with an acid and hydrogen peroxide. Baking soda, vinegar, alka seltzer, bromthymol blue and limewater will also be used to observe the properties of gases. Data Charts Page 2 LabPaq – Properties of gases General Chemistry Analysis Error and Trends When attempting to mix the Hydrogen and Oxygen together. I may have lost a small amount of hydrogen as I lifted the bulb filled with 2/3 hydrogen from the 24-well plate. I did not receive a reaction when I squeezed the bulb of hydrogen oxygen onto the flame. Hypothesis Conclusion It was challenging using my thumb to try and hold the gases in their pipet bulbs. I repeated a few of the experiments to make sure I received the same results and feel fairly confident that I obtained the results that were expected. Practical Applications Parts of this experiment used household items to collect data from. Learning the gas properties these household items contain is invaluable. Page 3

Improving Student Learning Through Technology Essay

Abstract In this day and age of all sorts of technological advancements, the wonders and possibilities for convenience and assistance could be met almost instantaneously. From arms’ reach to finger tip accessibility of knowledge and information, these advancements only pose greater advantages for more and more people, especially for the school and university sector. The dawn of the valuable personal computer, the mighty internet, and more soon to follow show only promise of development, improving further the chances of success for students is bettered. It would only be of true benefit because as these students step and extend into the real world, they shall be technically and technologically well-equipped to face anything and everything. Improving Student Learning Through Technology The essential purpose of education is one which opts to offer every student the chance to be able to succeed in life, amidst any challenge, circumstance, and failure. This goal could be better realized if and when all efforts, tools, and processes for education are used and optimized to it full potential. With numerous advances among the lines of technology, almost all issues of social, political, economic, and also academic importance could be facilitated with much ease and efficiency. With the use these various tools made easily available, students’ overall learning processes could be improved which would greatly benefit them. With subjects such as Algebra, Physics, and Chemistry, it must be considered that students are very much accustomed the more traditional methods of teaching, learning, and everything else that comes with it. Through the use of new technologies, a fresh, innovative approach is taken, which would stimulate and keep the students interested. Hence, scholarly institutions must recognize the habits of their students and capitalize on such opportunities. They must learn how to adapt with the changing times and incorporate use of technology in their programs. Take for instance gaming programs on the surface and as presented, such tools are used more for leisure than learning. However, the Queensland Government (2008) emphasizes that this must be implemented with function: â€Å"purposefully selected games blended with carefully constructed learning experiences can be used to improve student learning outcomes† (n.p.). Such options are often overlooked, for they are believed to only serve as distractions. However, as argued, the games must of course integrate needed scholarly requirements to help the students learn with passion and sustainable interest. Academic bodies and organization may take this in serious account, for it could truly bring a new sense of learning element that the more traditional methods of education may be lacking. Airline Safety essays

Airline Safety essays If you only had to pay for one fourth of your harmful actions or serve one fourth of your jail term, would you be happy? On average major airlines only have to pay a quarter for every dollar of fines that they are issued by the FAA, the Federal Aviation Administration (Staller, Most Fines Get Watered Down, usatoday.com). This can be true in cases that involve forgetting to complete paperwork to not screening luggage for explosives. Some people believe that air travel is one of the safest forms of transportation, while others question its safety. This report will examine the factors, points of views, and statistics of airline incidents that involve safety. When flying, the passengers of a commercial airline have many more things to worry about then getting to their destination on time. They have to be concerned about their personal safety. Many politicians and airplane passengers should and are worried about airline safety. Some of these worries include what condition the plane is in, who is flying the plane, and the new threat of what some experts call, falling baggage. Most federal regulators give airlines flexibility, but a typical maintenance schedule is usually followed by all of the airlines according to Boeing Corporation, a manufacturer of commercial planes (Maintenance Issues Related To Safety, boeing.com). Flight crews and on-board computers can usually monitor most of the planes interior components and its engines, but routine inspections are usually performed to inspect the planes surface area and other places that arent monitored by computers. Several times a day the airline personnel perform walk around checks in which they look for leakage of fluids and problems with surface area of the plane. These problems include dents and cracks. Every three to five days the planes lighting, landing gear, fluid levels, and exterior controls, and the flaps...

Stand and Deliver Essay Example

Stand and Deliver Essay Example Stand and Deliver Essay Stand and Deliver Essay The movie Stand and Deliver was inspired by a true story. The fact that It Is realistic, further Initiates the possibility of improving at something, which I think was the mall point of this movie. The movie started with the East of Los Angles Scene, things werent pretty. Crime and corruption was obviously rampant and emphasized. Children were not properly equipped with education, and were prone to live a life of obscenity if the areas education system was not improved. This particular person with the thick glasses; Jaime Escalate, wanted to make a change, he was completely determined to change the system and challenge the students to a higher level of achievement. And after trials and even a heart attack he had managed to succeed expectations. I think that this show was another testimony of the saying said by Napoleon Bonaparte The only limitations you have, are those you acknowledge. I think that If you balance motivation, determination, hard work and a little luck, you an achieve anything. Although the movie was a bit old, the Ideas never get old to me. Apart from the stories lesson, the click © part of the whole scene of what was happening came across to me as cheesy. The thick accents were also a hindrance to understand the movie; I Just wished It had subtitles. Also the filming was mediocre, low quality. The making of the movie was not that impressive but the story was. This in my opinion, are one of those movies you watch intentionally not for entertainment, UT for your own personal gain. The motivating factor and the cheesy stereotypic scenes depicted add to either its deterioration or common Interest amongst viewers. The ending was sort of expected, but I would be happy that it ended that way. Overall I think the movie was good in terms of substance. The movie is questionable though for people that seek more of an entertainment factor both from the quality of the movie and/ Its uniqueness among.

Network Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5500 words

Network Management - Essay Example Network management tools can also help in providing security to the systems. A network management tool known as "The Multi Router Traffic Grapher" is used to monitor the traffic load on all the network links. Emails are also monitored to delete spam and virus-infected emails at server itself and also to ensure that attachments are not too heavy to clog the rest of the system. Another network management tool "Nagios", which is a network and server monitoring system is also used. Nagios helps monitor network services, processor load, system logs, disk usage, etc. and is capable of providing email and SMS notifications as well. Nagios also allows proactively resolving problems by defining event handlers. To summarize, network management tools can help a network manager understand when any component of the network is about to fail or has already failed, or whose security has been compromised (e.g. through a viral attack), when the traffic has reached its peak, and most importantly, to know that everything is working fine. Structure of Management Information (SMI) is a component that is used in network management and provides the rules required in network management. It is based on object definition language known as Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN.1) and operates in Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). It "defines the general rules for naming objects, defining object types (including range and length), and showing how to encode objects and values" (Yang, n.d.). However, SMI does not define the number of objects that an entity should manage. It also does not define the names of the objects that are to be managed. Also, it does not define the how the objects and their corresponding values will be associated. A managed object has the following three attributes: a. Name: The name of the object known as the object identifier (OID) is used to uniquely define a managed object. There is no restriction on the type of name - it can be human readable or it could be numeric like an IP address. The naming convention of these managed objects is based on the ASN.1 naming scheme as mentioned earlier, which is hierarchical in nature. So an object identifier is made up of a series of integers separated by dots. These series is based on the nodes in the tree and is hierarchical. The figure below shows an example of an object identifier. As can be seen from the figure, the management branch (i.e. mgmt in the figure) defines a standard set of internet management objects (hierarchically above mgmt) and is named as iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt or 1.3.6.1.2. b. Type and syntax: ASN.1 is machine, OS and language independent method for describing data types and rules that define how data will be transmitted over the network. The data-types are described in brief below: Type Size Description INTEGER 4 bytes An integer with a value between -231 and 231 - 1 Integer32 4 bytes Same as INTEGER Unsigned32 4 bytes Unsigned with a value between 0 and 232 - 1 OCTET STRING Variable Byte-string up to 65,535 bytes long OBJECT IDENTIFIER Variable An object identifier IPAddress 4 bytes An IP address made of four integers Counter32 4 bytes An integer whose value can be incremented from zero to 232; when it reaches its maximum value it wraps back to zero Counter64 8 bytes 64-bit counter Gauge32 4

Engineering Ethics Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Engineering Ethics - Assignment Example An example would be concrete hardens slower as the temperature drops. The logical support is water freezes 0Â °C. Since concrete is mixed with water, the water temperature will affect how the concrete sets. The empirical support is the actual observations show at 21Â °C concrete will set within 6 hours. At 16Â °C concrete will set within 8 hours. It takes 11 hours at 10Â °C for concrete to set. It takes 19 hours at -1Â °C for concrete to set. At -7Â °C concrete will freeze. Actual observation and empirical support have proved how concrete sets during different temperatures. Social science theory is about what can be proven, not how society should function. An example would be 18 year old males in the United States can be drafted into the military in the case of war. This is an example of what is. An example of what should be is the draft should not exist, or women should also be drafted in order for equality to be achieved. In Israel all individuals, except mothers and Hasidic Jews, are made to serve two years in the military upon turning 18 years old. This can be proven. It is a law of Israeli society. What can be proven in society does not necessarily have to be a law. An example is the literacy rate in the United States is in the high 90% range. This can be proven through research and the national census. Basically social science theory can be proven, and is not based on opinion. Etic is the external researcher’s interpretation of what things mean to a member/members of society. Emic is the native’s or citizen’s interpretation for the basis of their beliefs. The etic and emic perspectives of the accident Three Mile Island were diametrically opposite. The emic view of what was going on in the population around Three Mile Island was panic generated by the release of The China Syndrome, misinformation, confusion, flawed formulas, an invincibility concept of nuclear reactors, and general mismanagement on the part of the staff of Three Mile
